Badrinath Dham

Welcome to Badrinath

Badrinath, situated at an altitude of 3,133 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas, is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Hinduism and a cornerstone of the Char Dham Yatra. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped here as Badrinarayan, this ancient temple is nestled along the Alaknanda River, surrounded by majestic snow-clad peaks. Badrinath offers a divine blend of spirituality, natural beauty, and cultural heritage, drawing devotees and travelers seeking salvation and serenity.

Spiritual Significance

Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, believed to reside here in his meditative form. The temple’s idol, a black stone Shaligram of Badrinarayan, is considered self-manifested and highly sacred. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu meditated here to atone for his earthly deeds, and the site is revered for granting spiritual liberation (moksha). As part of the Char Dham Yatra, Badrinath is believed to cleanse sins and fulfill devotees’ prayers, making it a spiritual pinnacle for Hindus.

History of Badrinath

The Badrinath temple, believed to be over a thousand years old, was revitalized by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century, who established its prominence as a pilgrimage site. The current structure, with its vibrant facade and Garhwal architecture, was rebuilt in the 17th century by the Garhwal kings after natural calamities. The temple opens annually on Akshaya Tritiya (April/May) and closes on Vijayadashami (October/November) due to heavy snowfall, with the deity moved to Joshimath for winter worship. Its historical and spiritual legacy continues to inspire millions.
